Insurgent Games Open Sourced

Now this is a pretty awesome move; the folks at found fame and riches elusive after getting five games out the door, so rather than being all bitter about it like most of us:

Insurgent Games Makes All Games Free, Releases Everything as Open Source

… Since they’re not working on the games anymore, they decided to release them to the community. They hope their games will thrive and be reborn as bigger and better things. All of their games are licensed under the GNU General Public License.

You can download the code for our projects here:

Also, in case the quote above scared you, note that the license is a rather … special … version of the GPL:

This game is licensed under the GNU General Public License (see gpl.txt). As the copyright owner, I hereby give anyone permission to re-license my GPL code under a non-GPL license for the purpose of distributing it in the iOS App Store or the Android Market.

Heh. Well, that’s certainly one way around GPL butt-stick-up-ness, isn’t it now?

Hmmmm ... I only had one mismatched initializer error (and a whack of warnings, but whatever), put in some dummy values and it appeared to run fine here with the latest Xcode.
